Things to do near Calahonda

CALAHONDA is the ideal base for a holiday full of activities.

From golfing to surfing and fishing to skiing there is something to cater for everyone.

Calahonda tourist train

Calahonda has its own 'train' service which runs a loop from El Zoco in the south of the resort, up The Strip, past Club Del Sol, as far as the Bonita Hills development.

On the return journey it goes via Lidl and the eastern edge of Calahonda, finally looping back via Los Olivos, opposite Gran Calahonda.

Local beaches in Calahonda

Gran Calahonda is just a few minutes walk from Calahonda beach.

This is ideal for a dip in the sea or perhaps an all-day long laze in the sun.

However, nearby Cabopino is where all the action is at.

Just a five minute drive from Gran Calahonda, Cabopino Port and beach is where the beach scenes for the failed BBC1 soap Eldorado were filmed.

It's also one of the prettiest beaches on the coast.

Cabopino beach has something for everyone. You can hire sunbeds, umbrellas and take part in numerous watersports.

Andy's beach bar is great for lunch and dinners saving the need to take a picnic.

Nudist beach

The western part of the beach is a dedicated nudist beach - or rather "clothing is optional"!

This area is clearly signposted Zona Natura lessening the likelihood of stumbling across this by mistake.

Cabopino port

Cabopino Port is one of the most attractive on the Costa del Sol.

It's surrounded by apartments, shops and restaurants and is like a mini Puerto Banus.

Albert's on the port is a popular place for lunch and dinner, with its quirky decor and great views.

To the east there are great beaches at Fuengirola, Benalmadena and Torremolinos and to the west Marbella and Puerto Banus.

There are more than 40 golf courses within a short drive of Calahonda. Calahonda's very own course, La Siesta, is a couple of minutes' drive from the complex.

Nearby Cabopino is great for fun-filled water activities.

Hire jet-skis and pedalos and also take a hair-raising ride on a banana boat.

Facing the sea turn right and you'll see a wooden shack from where you can get more details.


Fuengirola is a ten-minute drive away and home to Aqualand.

Aqualand Torremolinos is the larger of the parks.

Telecabina, Benalmadena

Get the best views of the coast on this fabulous cable car ride from Benalmadena up into the mountains.

On a clear day you can even see as far as Gibraltar and Africa.

At the top watch an eagle and Andalucian horse display.

Fuengirola Zoo

Fuengirola Zoo Fuengirola Zoo is the most modern in Spain and is dedicated to reflecting its animals real environments.

Themed zones include Madagascar, Equatorial Africa and south-east Asia.

Crocodile Park, Torremolinos

You can learn a lot about crocodiles here - while getting truly up close and personal.

The crocodile park is home to more than 300 Crocs from the very young to the five metre long Big Nile Crocodiles.

Plus meet Big Daddy, one of the largest crocs in the world and more than 80 years old.

Tivoli World, Benalmadena

Tivoli World is a mini theme park, the biggest entertainment complex on the coast.

There are lots of thrill rides and shows for all the family.

Tivoli World is open from 6pm-2am daily and entry costs just 7.

Trip to Tangiers, Africa

Tangiers Morocco

The city of Tangiers, Morocco is only a short distance from nearby Gibraltar.

Any of the local travel agents can arrange a day's coach trip for you for around 40.

It's a great way to experience Africa for the first time with the bustling Kasbah, traditional lunch with bellydancing and finishing the day with a camel ride.Coaches pick up from the main road in Calahonda around 6am.

Selwo Safari

Selwo Safari Park is a fabulous day out for all the family.

The African styled safari park has more than 2000 species of animals living in semi-wild conditions which you can explore with a guide in an all-terrain vehicle.

Selwo is more than just a zoo - the animals live in almost natural habitats with lots of space between them and the visitors.

You can see all the favourites including lions, tigers, rhinos, elephants, giraffes and bears.
